Opening hours

Monday closed,
Tuesday – Sunday open 10 am – 6 pm
Closing of exhibitions starts at 5.30 pm at the top floor;
Ticket office:  until 5.00 pm
Entry is allowed
 until 5.00 pm – also with pre-purchased or free tickets.

Special opening hours
20 August, National Holiday
Open: 10.00 am – 4.00 pm.
Free admission for all visitors depending on the number of visitors, last entry at 3 pm. This day all exhibition can be visited free of charge for all visitors. On this day guided tours and audio guides are not available.

Dear Visitors, From 15 August 2022 to 22 August access from the Castle Garden (Várkert Bazár) to the Hungarian National Gallery will be suspended due to preparatory work for the State Foundation Day of Hungary on 20th August. We offer you the following directions to approach our Museum during the mentioned period:

A, From Szent György Square, through the Baroque staircase
B, From Szent György Street, through the Hunyadi Courtyard
C, From Palota Street, with high capacity elevators (Tabáni liftek)
D, From Palota Street, with elevators of the National Széchényi Library



  • Groups can visit the exhibitions on their own. For inquiries about group visits please write .
  • Backpacks, bags larger than 30 × 25 x 15 cm, umbrellas and wet coats are not permitted in the exhibition areas, cabinets and cloakroom are available for their placement.
  • The dome can be visited with any admission ticket during opening hours. Depending on the interest, it may be necessary to limit the number of visitors.
