David Ward, recognized as a photographer in the first place, deals in various media, such as painting, making sound recordings, participating in dance and other productions. Since 1985, he took part in several performances with Bruce McLean. For Ward, the photo is the playground of imagination based on improvisation, the possibility to resuscitate the static picture panel with light, gestures and body postures. He creates various groups of movement by linking up different pictures. He only works in the studio where he can create his own world. The dynamic use of light reduces everything to the minimum, so his photos are rather light drawings. The model’s sculptural torso is fixed on the paper deprived of any external implication as a stylized element of motion.
