The daughter of Lord Chief Justice Miklós VII Pálffy was twelve years old when she sat for this painting by Carl Anton Rosier, generally regarded as a student of Georg Raphael Donner. Two other portraits depicting female members of the Pálffy family in Turkish dress are also known by the artist. The series was painted at a celebration organised in 1766 by Lord Chancellor Ferenc Esterházy and his family to mark the birthday of Maria Theresa and the wedding of the Bratislava-based governor of Hungary and his wife. The attires and customs of various peoples were evoked at the celebration, held in the garden of the Pálffy Castle in Cseklész (today Bernolákovo, Slovakia.) Ferenc Esterházy’s wife was wearing a Turkish costume modelled on the Turkish dress worn by Maria Theresa in a painting by Jean-Étienne Liotard, which is also featured in a print made jointly by Liotard and Joseph Camerata.
