Bilingual creative workshop for “artist younglings”

Creative workshop
Hungarian National Gallery
March 16, 2023

15:30 - 17:30

There is no place like the Gallery! We will start our creative workshops by taking a closer look at some of the artworks displayed in our exhibitions, then we will throw ourselves into creating.

The “artist younglings” can get familiar with the topics of shapes and colours, nature, still life and landscape, as well as portraits and figures, and abstract art – just to mention a few. They will have the opportunity to explore several exciting techniques as well: painting, drawing, printing, collage – only the sky is the limit!

The workshops are bilingual; Hungarian or English-speaking children are welcome between the ages of 8 and 12.

The workshops take place two times a month. To better immerse ourselves in a topic, we will devote two sessions to a particular theme. The new topics will party build on the previous sessions but joining in later is not a problem at all.

Participants will be guided by museum educators and visual artist Alexandra Hegedűs.

Our theme in March: Speaking Colours

What are primary colours, warm and cold colours? How can we create new colours and which colours like each other? How can the different colours and shapes speak to us, and what do they have to say?

We will start our program by learning about the world of colours, and practicing the freshly learned tricks using coloured papers. We will then explore how colours can help us express ourselves in painting.

Children can participate in the sessions without an accompanying adult.

Age: 8–12-year-olds
Language: Hungarian, English
Maximum number of participants: 10 persons
Tickets: in advance, HUF 8000 / 2 occasions
Advance tickets are available online. Tickets are non-refundable but transferable.

Meeting point and time: 3.20–3.30 pm, info desk
Duration: 2 hours

At the end of the workshops (5.30–5.40 pm) we will escort the children back to the info desk.

Those children who are allowed to leave the venue on their own are required to present a parental declaration

Additional topics and dates:

13. and 27. April, 3.30 p.m. – 5.30 p.m.

Nature is Waking Up – Animals and plants
There is no greater artist than nature, as the saying goes. In April we will be using the treasures of nature (leaves, grains, feathers, flowers etc.) to create artworks, while getting familiar with some exciting and special techniques. The young artists will be encouraged to make prints with the help of paint and pencils and to create animals from leaves, but we will also learn how to make eco prints, keeping the environment in mind. At the end of the workshop we will assemble our creations into a nature-inspired art book.

11. and 25. May, 3.30 p.m. – 5.30 p.m.

Outdoor Adventures
What colour is the shadow of a tree, and how many green colours can appear on a landscape? In May, following the footsteps of impressionist painters, we will be creating landscapes. In case of nice weather, we will study the colours of nature outdoors!
First, we will learn to control the mischievous watercolour paint, then similarly to how impressionist painters did, we will build up our landscape paintings from small colour patches.
