Attila Csörgő’s conceptual – and often moveable – sculptures and constructions occupy a border zone between art and science. His works often model geometric, optical, and mechanical phenomena. His experimental, experiential works are created using simple materials, not merely illustrating phenomena but also reflecting the thought process that leads to the “outcome”. Hemisphere is a construction created by a circular rotation around an axis. The difference in the speed of these motions determines the density of the two spirals – created using a torch bulb – that trace the hemisphere. The light from the torch bulb is hard to discern with the naked eye, thus the shape can be inferred only on the basis of the motion. The hemisphere, which surrounds the structure that creates it in the form of a dome, is made visible using long-exposure photography.
